Update from the Gardens
This past week we were able to give attention to some of our perennial crops. We completed the support system for our raspberries and treated them to a heavy dose of wood chips. The wood chips will help suppress weeds next year, conserve moisture, and help keep the soil biological activity intact and vibrant. In addition, we prepared the area that will become our Asparagus patch next year. This year it was the pumpkin patch. After removing vines and any weeds, we applied compost and will either plant a winter killed cover crop (like oats) or mulch with straw. We will dig our first sweet potatoes this week and pull our first beets! Autumn is sinking in!
