This year has been unlike any other since Darthia Farm was established in 1976. In addition to the Covid-19 pandemic, we experienced heat, drought, and predator problems. But Shepsi and Liz managed to keep predators at bay, then got very creative and started a pre-order/pickup system for buying our vegetables as well as grains, honey, syrup, meat, and oil bought from other farms. 3-4 lb chicken 1 ½ tsp fine sea salt ½ tsp pepper 1 T olive oil 5 – 6 handfuls organic hay – 12 cups 2 cups water season chicken with salt and pepper and massage with Olive Oil. Let sit at room temp for 1 hour. Cover bottom of 6 – 7 qt dutch oven with 3 inches hay. Nestle chicken in center and arrange hay on sides like a nest. Baked Custard 2 large duck eggs 1/3 cup maple syrup pinch of salt   Whisk these in bowl. Whisk in 2 cups hot milk gradually. Add 1 tsp vanilla Strain into pitcher or measuring cup for easy pouring. Pour into 5 custard cups or ramekins. Bake in bain-marie (water bath) in 325 degree oven for 50 - 60 minutes until set but still quivery in the center. Chill.

Cynthia spun her heart out in front of thousands of people.  Some people were buying skeins of yarn right off her wheel as she was spinning.  Andy, Star, Shepsi, Liz, Harbor, and Cedar gave hundreds of people rides in the big red wagon that Bill built long ago.  The weather was perfect, and there were smiles all around.  Shepsi even got to do a little talk about Haflingers as work animals in a round pen discussion about different draft horse breeds.

We are heading to the Common Ground Fair on Thursday with horses and wagon and we won't be back till Sunday.  Store will reopen on Monday at 8am with regular store hours.
