Update from the Gardens

We were joined by a mother daughter WWOOFer team (Diane and Clare) this past week and tackled the sweet potato harvest.  We had an incredible haul (some potatoes weighed out over 3 pounds!) this year and they are currently curing in the seedling greenhouse.  We keep them at around 70-85 degrees for about a week in order to "cure" the skins and make them storable for the winter.  In addition, we pulled our flint corn out of the field and the ears are drying on the wagon by the raspberry patch.  Garden clean up continues as we prepare for colder weather.  As we start to clean up the flower garden, we can't bring ourselves to pull up the calendula and purple top verbena, who are still showing brilliant colors.  Soon all the color on the farm will be in the leaves of the red maples, turning from yellow, to orange, to red.
