Update from the Gardens
Maple leaves are starting to show a different hue, the last of the hay is in, and we are starting to collect apples that are falling like rain from some of our trees. The season has certainly changed in the gardens and the superstars are the peppers, cabbage, and broccoli. The first of the purple cabbage is heading up nicely and the first of the cauliflower is showing itself as a small hint of white from deep within the core of the plant. Porcupines have been frequenting our winter squash and pumpkin patch and are gnawing on the fruits. It seems we won't have much in the way of squash this winter. The summer squash and green beans are slowing down, but the shelling beans are right around the corner. The extra rain is helping the onions bulb up in a big way. Everything tastes of autumn.
