Update from the Gardens
There's a lot of action in the gardens with all these extra hours of sunlight! We uncovered our summer squash (we use row cover to protect emerging squash plants from cucumber beetle attacks), and discovered blossoms and baby fruit forming. The green bean patch that neighbors the summer squash is showing the first blossoms, meaning baby green beans should start to show in a couple of weeks. The extra light and heat is also ramping up the pest life cycles. We are now finding potato beetles laying eggs in our potato patch and cucumber beetles trying to find their way onto cucumber and melon plants. We've got another wave of planting to do, but we are waiting for a good chance of rain in all this dry dusty heat!
