Update from the Gardens

Update from the Gardens

The gardens are well cultivated, but many of the resident plants look tired.  Green bean plants stopped putting out flowers a couple of weeks ago and now the only beans left are small and tough.  Summer squash plants have pretty much paused on producing new flowers and fruit.  It seems they are all conserving energy in this dry time until they get the rain needed to resume their life cycle.  Carrots and beets that we planted a month ago are also on pause.  They emerged wonderfully and have become established plants, but have stopped progressing as they too wait for the rain.  We have drip line irrigation inside our high tunnel greenhouses and the heat loving crops like, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, basil, are all getting plenty of water and are very happy.
