Raking Blueberries

Raking Blueberries

The blueberry season is coming to a close for us.  We have been raking blueberries since the beginning of August and have put most of them away in the freezers for making jams and preserves.  If you are not familiar with the wild low bush blueberries that grow very well in this down east region of Maine, I will start by saying they are smaller than what you find in grocery stores and very high in flavor.  We use a special rake to collect the berries, then must winnow them to get rid of any leaves and grasses that we pick up while raking.  Look for our blueberry preserves, jellies, and jams in our farm store and our mail order catalogue!
