We are harvesting Snow and Snap peas so far, and these are both eaten whole, pod and all.  They are a crunchy treat when eaten raw, and a delicious addition to any stir fry. I love sautéd snow peas but I love them raw, too. Here’s a very simple recipe for sautéd snow peas.   Mince one garlic scape. Take off the stem end of the snow peas. Heat some olive oil in a frying pan. Add garlic scape and stir for a minute. Add the snow peas and stir for a minute or two. You want them to still be crisp. Add a little tamari or soy sauce and a drop or two of sesame oil if you want. There are simple and delicious and can be served hot or cold.   OR...

Gifts of rain and gifts of long hours of sunlight are sending everything into the summer stage of growth. Milkweed is blossoming, potatoes (which require long hours of daylight to flower) are filling with blossoms, hollyhocks are budding out and preparing to burst open, and bean plants are leafing out with broad confidence. Sophia, who inhabits our A-Frame cabin, has been astounded this past week with the huge amounts of foliar growth the potato plants are doing right outside her window. Scallions – We have white bottom scallions and red bottom scallions to choose from. They are young, tender, full of flavor, and ready to enhance any dish.  Peas – Our early hoophouse planting of snap peas is bursting with life. The plants are 12 feet tall and the peas are swelling. We don’t have a large patch of the early peas so supplies are limited, but you may find a pint of delicious snap peas in the store when you come this week.
