We got Rain!  Just when it seemed like plants were going to fade into dust, we got rain.  This may be just what the gardens need to move on into summer mode.  We've got baby squash on the summer squash plants along with the flashy yellow blossoms.  Potatoes have flowered and look very strong.  The new round of cut lettuce has come into it's own and we have done a lot of turnover plantings in our early high tunnel.  We are transitioning from picking peas from our high tunnel to picking peas in the garden.  Shelling peas are just around...

There's a lot of action in the gardens with all these extra hours of sunlight!  We uncovered our summer squash (we use row cover to protect emerging squash plants from cucumber beetle attacks), and discovered blossoms and baby fruit forming.  The green bean patch that neighbors the summer squash is showing the first blossoms, meaning baby green beans should start to show in a couple of weeks.  The extra light and heat is also ramping up the pest life cycles.  We are now finding potato beetles laying eggs in our potato patch and cucumber beetles trying to find their way...

With that deep rain last Thursday and the Solstice sun upon us, everything is exploding with growth and looking like summer is arriving in full form.  The hay fields are a sea of daisies and buttercups.  The cherry tomatoes have started ripening and the strawberries are showing hints of pink.  I can practically watch the potatoes, squash, and beans grow significantly each day.  We got our corn, outdoor tomatoes, and tomatillos planted just before the rain and they are already taking to the garden quite nicely.  We just got our sweet potatoes planted and will transplant our melons and cukes...
